It's only the beginning; as our new governmental leadership has plans to destroy our independence, control our Freedoms, and make our society wholly dependent upon Uncle Sam. Don't get me wrong ... the catalyst (read the proposed Bill submission) is something we all need to think about and address as a society, but the methods by which our current legislators are taking in response to a tragic and violent act, which happened on a bus (in Chicago ... where else?), are over the top and should be unacceptable to most sane and law abiding people.

Oh, sure .... Obama's initial plan was to tax those of us who are making more than they think we should; ultimately resulting in the inability to grow our economy by employing more people. As this causes unemployment to continue rising, we're likely to recognize an even greater imbalance of the social classes and a rise in criminal activity at all levels of our society.

Now, the next brilliant plan is to create a system by where the government can quickly locate and disarm its citizens (see the proposed Bill), by removing all law abiding citizens' ability to "privately" own firearms and defend themselves from enemies (criminal, governmental) foreign and domestic; which will surely breed and flourish in Obama's nurtured environment of social unrest; while unemployment rates climb higher and more people are potentially driven to acts of desperation.

News Flash ... criminals don't obey the laws of our society! Take away our guns and the government and criminals will be the only ones with guns!

Yes, it starts with that little plan of President Obama's, "Let's tax the 'rich' and share the wealth with whomever the government believes is deserving." It's been followed up by, "Let's take away America's physical ability to prevent its government from doing whatever the Hell it wants to do in the future!" ... By the way, I've heard that you might find Obama's list of "deserving" people scattered throughout another document that President Obama keeps on the back of his throne for some easy reading, but has also never read. Well .... O.K. ... he might have looked at the pictures. ??

Some of our Congressional leaders would rather act, than be responsible in their actions. Sounds like my kids, when they were 4 or 5 years old. If this firearm licensing (gun control) Bill gets out of sub-committee and is subsequently passed into law, I'm predicting a run on large PVC piping materials, cosmoline grease, and shovels! Act now by contacting your government reps and stop this Bill in committee, or plan to visit your local Home Depot and pick up your required materials, while supplies last. I buried all of my "little friends" yesterday (in an undisclosed location) ... just in case.

Please educate yourself about this bill and write to your representative in Congress immediately!

Basically, makes it illegal to own a firearm, including those you already own, unless:
Each firearm you possess is registered

You are fingerprinted

You supply a current Driver's License, Social Security Number and physical address

Innocent Bystander Battered by a Burglary Suspect on the Run

On Saturday, December 7, 2008, Police in Bartow, Florida were quickly closing in on a burglary suspect that was on the run after a homeowner interrupted a burglary in progress. A little while later, police received another 911 call from a woman who had been battered by a man running through her apartment complex. That man fit the description of one of the suspects and was later caught by police a couple of blocks away.

You could almost imagine returning home to find a burglary in progress and having a physical confrontation with the criminals in your home. The homeowner was lucky that the bad guys ran away. How many people think about having to defend themselves from a suspect running through your neighborhood? Both the homeowner and the unsuspecting bystander were in very serious danger and could have been badly injured or worse. Stories like this happen every day, but not all have a good outcome. Many times the homeowner startles the burglar and is beaten severely or killed by the robbers. These real-life stories are perfect examples of why law abiding citizens must be prepared to defend themselves on a moments notice. Non-lethal self defense weapons are easy to obtain, easy to carry and use. Why would anyone not spend a few dollars to save their life or the life of a loved one?

If the woman had been carrying pepper spray, a Cheetah stun gun, or a TASER C2 the bad guy would have been the battered one. Stun Gun or TASER - So What's the Difference

Although there are similarities, try not to confuse a stun gun with a TASER ECD. Many people mistakenly use the terms interchangeably, but there are distinct differences in both function and the method of self defense application.

Stun Guns and TASERs are both designed to deliver a charge of high voltage, but low amperage electricity into a person's body through the skin. That charge disrupts their central nervous system. The electricity will affect the ability of a person to function like they normally would; they may loose complete control of their body; usually falling to the ground, unable to move for several seconds or even minutes.

The TASER takes this a step further as an ECD (Electronic Control Device). In addition to the electricity, it uses “Shaped Pulse Technology”, which is a sophisticated pulse wave. It initially uses a high voltage charge when it penetrate barriers such as clothing, followed by a series of lower voltage pulses that causes involuntary muscle contractions and a resulting sense of vertigo. The civilian TASER C2 can deliver that charge, unattended, for up to 30 seconds. Some stun guns do offer a pulsating feature, but only work for as long as you hold the trigger and maintain contact with your assailant’s body. Both devices are effective at stopping attackers. The TASER’s probes are attached to 15 foot wire leads; making it very effective out to about 10 feet away.

Stun Guns

A stun gun is a small, hand held device that comes in a variety of sizes and voltages. They range in size from a pack of cigarettes or tiny flashlight, all the way up to a large item that is similar in size to an older portable phone.

Stun Guns range from 80,000 to 1.8 Million volts with low amperage. Unless the attacker is on drugs or a gorilla, a stun gun should take them down. Their success rate is about 85%. The attacker does have to be next to you. If he is beyond the distance of your arm, the stun gun is worthless; unless you throw it at him, knocking him unconscious; which is not a good plan. The stun gun will not work if it is not touching the body of the attacker.

Stun Guns affect the victim's central nervous system. You have to hold the stun gun to the person for 3-7 seconds for it to work effectively. Just touching the person with it will drop them to the ground, but they will get back up. A stun gun requires you to apply a few seconds of electricity flowing to the assailant’s body in order for them to become disoriented and work most effectively.

Stun Guns cost $15 to $100 dollars, depending on their voltage and features. They come in many hand-held forms, including integration into flash lights, and disguised in items such as cell phones, lipstick cases, and Etc. Most stun guns are alkaline battery powered, although there are a few that use rechargeable batteries.

The Taser

The TASER is the final word in non-lethal self defense. While law enforcement model TASER X26 has 35 foot wire leads, it is illegal for non-law enforcement individuals to purchase and carry of self defense. There are now two consumer versions of the Taser. The original civilian models are the TASER M18 and TASER M18L, which have a similar shape as a standard .45 Colt pistol. The second and newest consumer model is the TASER C2, which has a sleek, curved design, and is much smaller. It comes in various colors, and is marketed to consumers as a small, yet effective self defense product. Both versions use nitrogen propelled cartridges to fire two electronic probes at the body of an attacker.

The probes are attached to thin wires, and the charge will penetrate up to 2 inches of clothing. The best distance to fire the Taser is 6-10 feet away. Further than that and the probes may separate too wide and possibly miss the target. Any closer and the probes might not spread apart far enough to be fully effective.

While the TASER's output is only 50,000 volts, the TASER also outputs higher amperage than a stun gun. The reason the TASER works so well is that it can shock the attacker for a period of 5-seconds up to a 30-seconds cycle; which temporarily disrupts the person's central nervous system. The TASER M-18 and M18L operate on a 5 second cycle, and the new TASER C2 operates up to a 30-second cycle when you pull the trigger. That means you can drop the TASER after you shoot it and run for help, and it will continue shocking the attacker for the rest of the 30-second cycle.

Since the TASER can only hold one cartridge at one time, it has a back-up feature that acts like a regular stun gun if you need to use it on another attacker. Hold it against the attacker, pull the trigger, and the electricity will flow between the two exposed contacts at the end of the Taser and the attacker's body. It is as effective as the probes.

The TASER C2 starts at about $299 without a laser sight, and the M18 starts at about $399 without a laser sight. Both have models with a laser sight that are highly desirable for to ensuring you hit exactly where you are aiming.

Both stun guns and TASERs are extremely effective self defense products. If you have the funds, a Taser is the best non-lethal self defense product on the market, and it provides the furthest distance from your attacker for it to work. With a TASER, the attacker should not get close enough to hurt you, unless they’re carrying a gun.

Stun guns are effective also, are less expensive, and require you to be within arms reach of your attacker. The risk is the attacker could take it from you and use it against you, so you want to choose one with an emergency wrist strap that will disconnect quickly, rendering the stun gun useless.

Use of Lethal Force in Self Defense

Many people often wonder what justifies the use of lethal force versus non-lethal self defense tactics and tools. The law is relatively clear on this matter. However, the law may also imprison someone who was fully justified in the use of lethal force, but failed to prove that they were in fear of their life; not simply upset, startled, or over-reacting to a situation. There are four very important things to remember, if you are ever in a situation that required the use of lethal force to defend yourself or another human being.

1) Never discuss your actions involving the use of lethal force with anyone without your lawyer present!

2) Never express doubt of whether you had to use lethal force.

3) Never express remorse for your actions, as this can imply your feelings of guilt for the actions you took.

If you have the option to leave the area or run away from a threat, you must do so. If you perceive that you have no other option than to stand and fight, then do so with all the fury you can muster. If your defensive response is perceived as weak, your attacker may simply intensify the assault! When non-lethal force will stop the threat, you must not cross the line without expecting a legal storm to ensue. You can not make a willful decision to act in a manner that you know may place you in a life threatening situation and then expect to easily defend your use of lethal force.

If an attacker has a weapon in their hands, which you believe has the potential to inflict serious bodily injury or death upon you or someone near you, you can reasonably assume they intend to do you serious bodily harm or worse. Lethal force may be warranted and would be a defensible action. It’s always better to be judged by twelve than to be carried by six. Remember that the use of lethal force is never to be taken lightly. The taking of another person’s life may be justifiable from a legal system’s perspective, but you have to live with your decision.

Several of the most common non-lethal forms of self defense weapons (pepper spray, stun gun, TASER) are legal in the majority of jurisdictions throughout the United States. Once again, you must be able to prove that you were being attacked or about to be attacked. The use of pepper spray, stun guns, TASER devices, batons, or any device that inflicts pain upon another human being must be justified or you may find yourself on the front end of a lawsuit.
